The name "Gostilna na Gradu" (the "castle restaurant") evokes tourist imagery, but this restaurant exceeds expectations. Although it is located in the inner courtyard of the city's most visited and iconic monument, the dishes here are prepared with carefully selected Slovenian ingredients and masterfully cooked. One of our favorite dishes is beef tongue with onions, which is far more than its simple description suggests. The tongue is lightly salted, smoked, and served thinly sliced with turnip mousse, toasted pumpkin seeds, and wild garlic oil, along with sweet-and-sour braised onions.
